From the collection of: Chris Topping
Likely early 20th century or late 19th century for the hilt - assumed Tuareg.
Odd piece with single piece brass pommel and hilt. Rather heavy construction. Leather is new having been obviously refreshed however hilting looks to be much older.
Blade is flat, without markings, fullering or any other decorative features. One side of blade has heavy hammer marks. Steel is thick, extremely flexible but not floppy. Some distal taper evident.
Overall a large and heavy, workmanlike sword with good balance and a lot of presence.
