Blade likely 19th century, mounts 20th century - Tuareg?
An interesting takouba exhibiting unusual blade engraving and well made mounts. The blade is a single fuller, exhibiting plenty of use and resharpening. Perhaps European but more likely native, the tip has been sharpen enough times the fuller now extends fully into the rounded tip.
The blade has several engravings, which resemble in some way Ottoman Tughra. At the base of the blade two copper slugs have been inserted. Likely for talismanic reasons. The blade shows good distal taper and appears to be of high quality steel.
The mounts are classic early 20th century with a high stacked pommel, beautifully made. The leather work is old and richly decorated.
