19th century likely - Mandara regions

This intriguing sword is a combination of a takouba hilt, showing characteristics that likely point to the Mandara mountains region, with a locally made blade. The blade is highly unusual in that it features a central rib, while most takouba are either flat, or feature fullers. This corresponds to other sword forms found in the region, the shorter blade may show a regional preference as well.

This is an intriguing piece showing how the overall form of the takouba could be blended with existing native forms.
