20th century - Hausa

A later period Hausa sword, the blade is locally made and may pre-date the mounts. The hilt is executed in brass with typical decorative motifs, while the pommel is of a later form, transitioning to the 'stacked' style. This is an example of a sword probably made at a time when its function was more as part of traditional dress than a fighting weapon.
