Early 20th century - Hausa

An example of an all native Hausa sword from the colonial period in Nigeria. The hilt is nicely decorated brass, showing typical motifs and a transitional pommel form, while the blade is a local product an unusual in that it retains a point. Takouba continued to play a role in the regalia of Hausa emirates and cultural events long into the 20th and even 21st century and can be seen during modern festivals to this day.
