Likely early to mid 20th century, the leather and fabric elements later. North Cameroon, Fulani
A 20th century sword, with a thick sturdy blade and a complete baldric. This is not a remarkable sword but a nice example of the type in recent times.
The blade is an imitation of military sabres known in the area from colonial times, singled edged with one fuller, it is thick backed and quite sharp with good bevels. The hilt is leather with a steel pommel comprised of stacks.
The baldric is one of the stand out elements of the piece and shows off the colourful nature of these sword fittings. An aspect rarely seen with older pieces with poor condition scabbards.
