Likely 19th century - possibly Bornu regions.

A very thick and heavy takouba with a single fuller leading into a diamond cross section for the last 2/3rds of the blade. This differs from the usual single fuller profile of trade blades that do not transition to a midrib. The blade is unmarked.

The hilt is workmanlike with a heavy duty brass pommel. It is of the domed variety with two piece construction but the dome is not pronounced. The guard and grip are leather covered. The leather shows good age and is not the thinner modern leather often encountered on recent pieces.

This is possibly from the Bornu regions judging by the leather hilt style and the patterns on the scabbard. However this is an imprecise guess and it could equally be from another area entirely.
