19th century, perhaps 18th century. Blade can be older. Likely Tuareg or Hausa.

Comments

This is an excellent takouba of good age with an imported European blade. The blade may date from the 17th century and features astral symbols engraved which are associated with Solingen blades of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The hilt has a large pommel, decorative brass guard plate and round grip tube.

The grip indicates this does not belong into the group of very old swords with multi faceted grips, however it is still a sword of considerable age with an outstanding blade.
