A high quality Italian blade likely from the 18th century or older. These blades were common on backswords such as Scottish basket hilts as well as later schiavona and were widely exported appearing in Indian mounts as well.

This example features a typical ricasso, blade marks consisting of sickle and dot patterns commonly associated with Italian makers and a hilt of likely early to mid 20 century manufacture. The hilt is of the "stacked pommel" type and the scabbard in conjunction with the hilt points to likely Tuareg use. This sword is a good example of a quality blade being refitted with new mounts from generation to generation.
